Welcome To Mini Morgans
Morgan’s Vale and Woodfalls Primary School and Pre School have always worked closely together to ensure that children make a good transition from Pre School into Primary School. The Pre School and School are now working more formally together in a partnership. It has increasingly made good sense to do so, especially as new laws governing the education of 0-5 year old children came into effect in September 2008.
Children aged 3-4 at Pre School and children aged 4-5 at school are in the same Key Stage (called Foundation Stage) and so their learning is organised in the same way. This changes when children move into Year 1 at school as they move into what is called Key Stage 1. It is therefore a huge advantage to have 3-4 and 4-5 year olds learning together in the same learning environment and this is at the heart of the new Mini Morgans Foundation Stage Unit.
Provision for children aged 2-3 is in the newly refurbished Mini Morgans Nursery on 3 mornings a week (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday). Our local Toddler group, Twiglets, are also based in the Nursery on Tuesday mornings.
Mini Morgan’s Nursery
If your child is 2-3 years old
The Nursery has been renovated to provide stimulating learning through play opportunities for children aged 2 – 3 years old (until entitlement to the government voucher system begins).
This provision is currently offered on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 9 – 11.30am. The qualified leader of the Nursery is Wendy Hayes, supported by experienced key workers.
Although the children are accommodated in the Nursery building they have strong links with the school, being able to use the facilities that the 3-5 year olds use, including the narrow boat play area. Making a successful transition from Nursery to Foundation Stage Unit is very important to us and there will be a number of shared activities and ‘visits’ to ensure that this is smooth and uneventful. Discussions between staff and parents will be very important at this time.
The building is a home from home, providing relaxing accommodation for children and adults to enjoy. A new and larger ‘messy’ area provides facilities for the children to play with sand, water and activities such as paint without worrying about spillages. The carpet area allows the children to access construction equipment, puppets, puzzles and other activities.
What about Toddler group?
Twiglets use the Nursery accommodation each Tuesday; they have access to the school (for larger numbers and messy play) and the school field, to support physical development.
